The Rose Garden
The Rose Garden, also known as Rosie Rosie Rosie Rosie Lee and The Alchemical Rose Garden, is an interactive theatrical experience. Part build project, part maze, part tea-leaf reading, the installation is constructed with recycled wood, pound shop red plastic roses and a troupe of celestial gardeners.
Participants follow the maze to its centre, encountering characters and interactive shrines along the way, and receiving a playful symbolic affirmation of the self in the centre of the structure. Early arrivers are invited to help ‘garden’, by adding roses to the structure, contributing to its unique co-creation.
This is an original piece devised by Eleanor Barrett. It has been performed and well received at Shunt Vaults, ICA, Bradford Playhouse & Mela, the London International Festival of Theatre, Shambala and the Bradford Festival.
Feedback from audience at the Bradford Festival:
“I can’t thank you ladies enough for this. It’s a truly beautiful thing that you’ve created. Wonderful for different cultures and wonderful for children as well as adults. People come out with huge smiles on their faces – they come from a hard northern society [Bradford] and into this heaven you’ve created and they come out happier people.”
“It’s really great, so different and unexpected”
“I found it so peaceful, joyful and peaceful”
“Magic, magic, magic”
“The kids absolutely loved it”
