Bradford City Hall Artists Residency

The Bradford City Hall Residency was a four month long artists residency during which The Brick Box’s Rosie Freeman and Harry Jelley explored City Hall’s archives and stories, and met communities connected to the building. Hosted by Bradford Council and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this process culminated with a public sharing event on 28th July 2022.

Rosie presented ‘HEARTH’ – a sound piece drawing on City Hall’s unique relationship with nature, citizenship, and its place in the public imagination. You can listen to it here.

‘Eating City Hall’ was a playful poetry and food experience developed by Harry, using archives and stories as a starting point for a creative cuisine.

Rosie and Harry collaborated with artists MARF and Sonia Sandhu, respectively, to develop these pieces. They were in residence alongside artist Shiraaz Ali who created a community-inspired mural for Centenary Square.
