Lumiere Durham
Our fabulous Electric Fireside had a brand new adventure during autumn 2015 as we ventured north to County Durham. After the success of this wonderfully surreal and engaging project in Bradford and London we were invited by Artichoke to be part of Lumiere.
Over the course of three months, we collaborated with all kinds of people across county Durham; in Spennymoor, Wingate and Dawdon, to explore their stories and work out creative ways to express them. Our fantastic team – Hannah Ringham (Shunt), Samuel Wyer (National Theatre, Punchdrunk), Chemaine Cooke (Art Farmers, Mother) and Lisa Newnham (Brighton Pride) – collaborated with local people using spoken word, theatre, dance, song, puppetry and plenty of magic to help bring their stories to life.
The groups shared their stories at mini Fireside events with friends, family and neighbours before coming to Lumiere itself on a series of magical light up buses to host the installation in a rather fabulous loading bay in Durham city centre! Together we lit up dark corners and celebrated what it is to be part of a community with a different group hosting the installation each night.
