Garage Gala
The Brick Box have been working in Thamesmead, south east London, since 2013; it’s a place for which we have a lot of affection and interest. As part of the Thamesmead Arts Festival 2016, we developed a project which reimagined the empty garages of The Moorings estate in SE28.
The programme was built with local residents and everyone was invited. The programme included:
Mike Mullen’s BMX Academy, Underwater Storytelling, the Toast Temple, Liberated Liberace, Global Fusion, Sound Bites of a Utopian Ideal (a collection of posters by Peter Chadwick responding to sound recordings and films from the London Metropolitan Archives about Thamesmead in the 1970s), Positive Steps Trust Thamesmead, Battersea Cats and Dogs Protection, Nana’s Nick Nacks, Thamesmead Minecraft and much more!
Peabody folk were also there with information and listening ears to talk about home and community.?This project was funded by Peabody and delivered by The Brick Box.
