Royal Victoria Beach
In the summer of 2013, The Brick Box were commissioned by the regeneration team at Newham Council to animate and activate the western end of the Royal Victoria Dock, London. We worked closely with local stakeholders to create a ‘day out’ for families, installed a set of replica Victorian bathing machines at the dock edge, and delivered a programme of free arts activities, which ran from the end of July until the end of September.
As well as providing a lot of fun for all, the Royal Victoria Beach Project supported the local economy via procurement and recruitment, encouraged local participation and attracted visitors to the borough. The lessons learned during the project have also gone to inform the longer term use of the space and the cultural vision for the Royal Docks.
